Canvas is a cloud-based learning management system (LMS) that allow parents, students, and teachers to connect their digital resources in one place. Students use Canvas almost on a daily basis, and parents have access to observe the same course material and resources that teachers provide.
Creating and Pairing a Parent Account for Canvas:
Step 1: Have your student log in to their account and go to settings.
Step 2: On the right-hand side, have your student click on the “Pair with Observer” to generate a pairing code.
Step 3: A pairing code will generate. Save this code. It is case sensitive.
Step 4: Open the Canvas URL at this link.
Step 5: Click the “Parents of a Canvas User?” link.
Step 6: Enter the information requested including your child’s pairing code from Step 3. Click “Start Participating” button.
Step 7: Once you are in Canvas, click the “Courses” link to see different courses your child has available to view.
Adding a Student to an existing Parent Account:
Step 1: Have your student log in to their account and go to settings.
Step 2: On the left-hand side, have your student click on the “Pair with Observer” to generate a pairing code.

Step 4: Log into your account at https://hersheyk12.instructure.com.
Step 5: Select “Account” on the upper left side of the page.
Step 6: Select “Observing”.
Step 7: Enter student pairing code.
